$6 million upgrades for Canberra stadiums

A total of $6 million will be spent upgrading the Canberra Stadium and Manuka Oval.
ACT Sports Minister Andrew Barr recently announced A budget provision of $3.4 million over four years to improve facilities at Manuka Oval.
With the Greater Western Sydney AFL team playing four games a year in Canberra from next year, the seating capacity at Manuka Oval will be boosted by 4,300 temporary seats to 15,000.
The funding will also cover a forward design of upgrades to the Hawke and Bradman stands, new media and corporate facilities and upgrades to entry facilities.
Minister Barr says they are also investigating lighting for the oval to accommodate night cricket and AFL, estimating that new lighting would cost up to $5 million.
Minister Barr explained "we've been working closely with the Federal Government around a centenary gift for the city. One of the options we've put forward in the sport portfolio is a co-contribution towards lighting at Manuka."
Canberra Stadium will also be upgraded to the tune of $2.6 million over two years.
The money will go towards waterproofing spectator stands and improving electronic ticketing and IT systems.
