Abel Sports kick goals for the AFL
Australian goalpost manufacturer Abel Sports have recently completed a major project for the AFL at the Greater Western Sydney Giants' new state of the art training facility at Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush.
Explaining the project, Abel Sports General Manager David Vesely stated "being built on a reclaimed tip site, this ground has been a real challenge.
"It required considerable input from our Engineers to overcome the problems with regards the depth and size of the footings for the 15 metre Abel AFL goal posts and also the Barrier netting system behind the goals."
Working together with HG Turf, Abel Sports installed the 15 metre hinged based AFL goals on 2 metre square cement slabs buried 500 mm below the surface.
Installing the 12 metre steel Barrier net poles was not as easy, not only did they require the large slab footings , but they also required the additional support of steel stays to support these poles.
Commented on the work, GWS Giants Stadium Development Manager Simon Gorr stated "it was a pleasure to work together with David Vesely and the Abel Sports team on this challenging project.
"It makes it so much easier when the Company you are dealing with not only manufactures the equipment, but also has the professional team to install as well."
Abel also replaced the netting on the adjacent Golf Driving range so that it would be suitable for reflecting footballs.
Abel Sports has its own team of installers and guarantees not only the manufactured product, but also all the installations and footings.
As a result, Abel Sports is the preferred supplier for goal posts and barrier netting systems for many major sport stadium developments in Australia.
