Former AFL Chief Executive Andrew Demetriou and Football Federation Australia (FFA) Chief Executive Ben Buckley have been named as the Chairman and Chief Executive of new sport technology venture, Beyond Boundaries Global.

Backed by investors in Australia and India, the Singapore-based start-up is set to open offices in Europe and Asia. While it has yet to reveal the type of services it will offer, industry sources suggest it will be active in wearable sport technology.

However, Demetriou (pictured) told The Australian that it was too early to reveal any details about the type of services that will be provided, stating “it’s innovative and something different in a space that we think has some worldwide applications; we’re pretty excited about it.”

Buckley has resigned from pay-TV operator Foxtel, where he is Executive Director Sport, to lead the new venture.

Buckley, who worked with Demetriou at the AFL between 1999 and 2006, has worked at Foxtel since 2013. He was Chief Executive at the FFA from 2006 to 2012.

Since leaving the AFL in June 2014, Demetriou has become a shareholder in the Bastion Collective, a sports marketing company that helps broker sponsorship deals for large organisations including AFL clubs.

He is also Executive Chairman of vocational education company Acquire Learning and a board member of the Climate Institute and Crown Resorts.
