June 9, 2011

Action Sports International (ASI) have recently completed a range of installations at sports venues in Qatar's Aspire Zone.

The US-based company installed their Astroturf GT+ synthetic for training fields at Qatar's National Football Centre (QNFC) while also installing 20,000 metre2 of Eagleturf Lifestyle 20 turf as cover for the athletics track at Doha's Khalifa Stadium along with a further 40,000 metre2 of their EagleLawn MF 35 landscaping turf duo MF in the sporting precinct.

The Astroturf GT+ system installation, which commenced in January, incorporates the latest turf technology with 'horseshoe' shaped fibre that stands back up after heavy wear. The infill is all epdm, beige/green and the 65 mm polyurethane backed turf is laid on a 23 mm rubber shock-pad from Stockmeier Urethanes in Germany.

Qatar is the host of the 2022 Football World Cup, which will be the first host in the Middle East, so when the QNFC chose to replace its indoor and outdoor pitches from Fieldturf and Mondo, to Astroturf GT+, it was a huge decision for the region and turf technology for the Gulf.

The outdoor field includes Astroflect, a new technology that brings the surface temperature down by 20%.
