Australian rugby announces National Registration Day

The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) has announced that it is joining forces with Australia's five Super Rugby teams to launch the code's first National Registration Day on Saturday 18th February.

Players of all ages - juniors and seniors - will have the chance to get information on Rugby in 2012, sign up with a local club and meet their favourite Super Rugby and Wallabies stars as part of a nationwide campaign to recruit new players to the game.

ARU Managing Director and Chief Executive John O'Neill encouraged everyone with an interest in rugby to get along to one of the many events happening around the country.

O'Neill stated "whether you're a first time player or a rugby veteran, National Registration Day is for everyone and I encourage families and fans to come along and be part of rugby in 2012.

"Over the past few years we've seen a growing interest in rugby both at the grassroots and international level, which is why this year ARU has teamed up with the Australian FxPro Super Rugby teams to help further promote our great game and the new season across the country.

"National Registration Day is one of a number of new initiatives ARU has introduced this year to assist clubs attract new players and retain current players.

"One of those initiatives is a new online registration and payment system, which clubs to contact members and players to remind them to update their contact details, register and pay for the upcoming season."

National Registration Day will be held at:

• Sydney Football Stadium from 10:30am to 12:30pm
• Ballymore, Brisbane from 11am to 2pm
• Gosch's Paddock, Melbourne from 4 to 6pm
• Brumbies HQ, Austin Street, Griffith, ACT from midday to 2pm
• Perth - details to be announced by local clubs.
