Details released of Westpac Stadium’s entire field and stand CCTV security system
Wellington’s Westpac Stadium has become the world’s first venue to achieve entire field and stand CCTV coverage after installing a multi-focal security video system that can surveil every face in the venue.
With the increased need for more vigilant video monitoring, Stadium managers employed Panomera cameras from Dallmeier, which can monitor a large area from a single location in high-definition, rather than having to employ multiple cameras around the venue.
The Panomera multifocal sensor system allows a huge area to be monitored from a single location, combining the overall view with simultaneous top detail resolution. Even more distant objects are displayed with the same resolution as objects in the foreground of the picture.
The system also solves the well-known problem with PTZ cameras whereby the operator has to choose between overview image and a zoomed detailed view.

The Panomera technology allows whole scenes to be recorded irrelevant of where the operators are looking, enabling retrospective playback into any area after an event. Recorded footage can be viewed instantly and simultaneously to live views on match days or reviewed subsequent to the event. Taking into account the high numbers and density of fans in a particular section of a stadium, it can often be a headache and require a great use of resources to identify and apprehend an individual or individuals involved in any offences. The quality and format of the images can also be considered especially when being used as evidence.
