Developer Aventuur submits Development Application for the Perth Surf Park

The largest surf park in the Southern Hemisphere is one step closer to opening as a result of surf park developer Aventuur having submitted its Development Application (DA) for the Perth Surf Park.
Aventuur’s DA submission for the $100 million attraction follows the company’s recent signing of a long-term ground lease with the Western Australian Government for a 5.8 hectare site for the surf park in Cockburn.
Advising how the surf park is set to become a major tourism, sporting and entertainment precinct for Perth, Aventuur Chairman and local resident Andrew Ross on commented “we’re thrilled to reach this milestone in our campaign to bring a world-class surf park to the West. Perth has a rich surfing culture, and we’re stoked to create a new hub for our community to enjoy.
“We’ve worked with a talented local team of designers, architects and technical consultants to deliver a truly unique masterplan for the Perth Surf Park. We’re also proud to announce that the surf park's buildings will be 5 Green Star rated, reflecting our commitment to sustainable development and minimising our impact.
“On behalf of Aventuur, I’d like to personally thank the Western Australian Government, the City of Cockburn and the entire WA surfing community who have supported us on our journey. As a surfer and Cockburn ratepayer, I can’t wait to have more perfect waves in our backyard, and to share them with Perth locals and visitors.”
Expected to attraction one million visits a year, the surf park will provide Perth with an innovative surf sports, recreation and entertainment hub, featuring a 56-module Wavegarden Cove surfing lagoon, a high performance surf academy, health and wellness centre, beach club, quality bars and restaurants, casual workspaces, retail stores, regular events and on-site accommodation.
Welcoming the news that Aventuur had submitted its DA for the Perth Surf Park, Tourism Council WA Chief Executive, Evan Hall stated “Aventuur has a history of delivering successful tourism experiences, and we are delighted to see the ongoing commitment by Aventuur to the sustainable development of WA’s coastline.
“Western Australia has been lagging behind in developing new experiences and attractions for locals and visitors. The proposed development of a wave park is welcome news and will provide a new, year-round activity for Western Australians.”
Creating over 260 jobs during construction, the Perth Surf Park is expected to contribute upwards of $250 million to the Western Australian economy over the life of the project.
Advising that he was overwhelmed by the strong support for the project from WA’s surfing community, Surfing WA Chief Executive, Mark Lane added “the support from the WA surfing community for the surf park has been incredible, and we’re excited about Aventuur reaching this important project milestone.
“With perfect waves dotted along our coastline, WA is already on the surfing world map. The Perth Surf Park will further elevate the State’s profile as a must-visit surf destination - providing a unique community asset for everyone to share the stoke of surfing, and enjoy the best of the West.”
Located on Prinsep Road, Jandakot adjacent to the Kwinana Freeway, the Perth Surf Park will be accessible from the Perth CBD and Perth Airport within 25 minutes.
Subject to approvals being received from relevant authorities, the surf park is expected to open to the public in 2025.
