Digital Sport Marketing conference hits the spot

Digital Sport Marketing conference hits the spot
June 16, 2010

The upcoming 'Fan and Participant Engagement in the Digital Age' sport conference has attracted strong delegate support.

Simon Arkwright, Chief Executive of conference organisers the Sport Research Group, says that there are already 120 confirmed attendees at the event. Arkwright says that such a high number of early registrations means that the maximum number for delegates (200) is likely to be easily reached a couple of weeks before the conference is held at Sydneyâs Star City Hotel & Casino on 13th and 14th July.

Arkwright believes that the high number of conference registrations can be attributed to two key factors: the subject matter - explaining how social media and digital technology can be used in the marketing of sport; and the 13 overseas experts who will be traveling down to Sydney to addresses at the conference - industry leaders including Real Madrid's Pedro Gonzalez, Tottenhamâs Paul Barber and Kirsten Corio, Ted Johnson and Dan Harbison (all from the US National Basketball Association competition).

Arkwright said that "the attraction for delegates it is very much a case of the right theme (Digital Sport Marketing) combined with a world class line up of conference speakers", adding "the recent explosion of social media coupled with significant advancements in the provision of digital content has introduced a whole new element into sport marketing.

"Sport teams and governing bodies the world over are simultaneously wrestling with how to accommodate and incorporate this new phenomenon.

"The conference's strong early registration is proof positive that the Australian sport business industry regards attending the âFan and Participant Engagement in the Digital Ageâ conference as the best means of discovering some of the necessary answers."

Arkwright said that support has been particularly strong among the professional leagues such as the AFL, NRL and Super 14 teams with most of the AFL clubs already registered.

Arkwright added that the event offers much for sponsors, governing bodies and grassroots sport.
