The Australian Sports Technologies Network (ASTN) has announced that former Federal Minister for Sport, Kate Lundy, has joined its Board of Directors.

The retiring Senator for the Australian Capital Territory will add the ASTN directorship to a portfolio of new opportunities.

Welcoming Senator Lundy’s new role, ASTN Chair James Demetriou stated “we have great privilege in adding Ms Lundy to our board.

“She has been a great advocate of the ASTN since our establishment in April 2012. From the outset Ms. Lundy very clearly understood the gap that the ASTN planned to address in our sports system, and the potential to grow a coordinated, world competitive sports technology industry.”

Throughout her 20-year parliamentary career Kate Lundy held numerous ministerial portfolios, including as the Federal Minister for Sport, Minister Assisting the Minister for the Digital Economy and Industry and Innovation and Minister for Multicultural Affairs.

Commenting on her new role, Lundy explained “I have been closely following the progress of the ASTN over the past three years, and thank Mr Demetriou and the board for approaching me to take on a directorship. I believe that my experience in sports, technology and innovation portfolios will add considerable value to the ASTN’s strategic opportunities.”

During Senator Lundy’s tenure as Federal Minister for Sport and Minister Assisting for Industry and Innovation, in 2012 the Australian Government provided $225,000 in funding to establish the ASTN.
