Game on for Sports Matters

Following on from last year's successful inaugural event, the Sports Matters conference returns to Singapore on 17th and 18th September – immediately prior to the Singapore Grand Prix.
The two day conference sets out to attract leaders and visionaries in the global sports business to examine who and what is driving the industry, how Asia contributes to the global sports industry and what the future holds while also contributing to the expanding sports sponsorship industry in Asia.
Produced by Branded (owners of Digital and Music Matters and Social Media Matters) and Haymarket Media (publishers of Campaign, FourFourTwo and F1 Racing), Sports Matters aims to build the foundations for a healthy and sustainable Asian sports industry.
Commenting on the 2013 conference, Singapore Tourism Board Chief Executive Lionel Yeo stated "I applaud Branded's success in putting together a compelling program and an exciting line up of speakers.
“Over those two days of Sports Matters, Singapore became the confluence point for thought leaders and leading practitioners from the global sports industry."
Last year's event attracted more than 420 attendees including 60 speakers, 220 companies, 100 broadcasters and 50 brands. Using #SportsMatters, the event had tweets coming from 24 countries around the world reaching over 700,000 individuals.
Speakers confirmed for this year's event include former British Olympic gold medallist Sebastian Coe, Manchester United managing director (Asia-Pacific) Jamie Reigle, and Spanish football club Barcelona's managing director (Asia-Pacific), Xavier Asensi. The delegates from Singapore include Sport Singapore Chief Executive Lim Teck Yin, StarHub Chief Executive Tan Tong Hai and World Sport Group (WSG) Chief Executive Andrew Georgiou.
Discussions will revolve around the globalisation of sport and the power of social media to reach out to a wider fan base.
Branded Chief Executive Jasper Donat explains that the decision to base the Sports Matters event in Singapore was due to "the sports market being very much alive and well here.
“The big sports media companies like Fox and ESPN are here, you've got the sports agencies like WSG and IMG (and) the government too is investing heavily in sports infrastructure such as the new Singapore Sports Hub.
