September 30, 2016

Gymnastics Western Australia has unveiled a new online initiative to engage young gymnasts.

Named The Gym Squad, the website aims to bring to life the sport’s vision statement of ‘Gymnastics: Start here, go anywhere’.

Featuring characters actively involved with the seven different gymnastics sports, The Gym Squad present the the fundamental movement skills that are essential for other sports.

Primarily targeted at children under the age of 12 years, the website highlights that it doesn't matter if you stay in gymnastics for life, or move on to new sporting passions, gymnastics is a great place to start.

The Gym Squad comprises six characters with each squad member doing at least one Gymsport in addition to two other sports:

• Ava - Rhythmic gymnastics, horse riding and tennis
• Matt - Men’s artistic gymnastics, football and athletics
• Emma - Women’s artistic gymnastics, acrobatic gymnastics, netball and tennis
• Jake - Men’s artistic gymnastics, trampoline gymnastics, cricket and surfing
• Maddie - Aerobic gymnastics, skateboarding and AFL
• Aiden - Trampoline gymnastics, basketball and swimming

Gymnastics Western Australia expect that “visitors will be engaged through the highly visual elements of The Gym Squad as well as interactive activities that will be regularly added to the site including comics, colour-in pictures, games, quizzes, competitions and merchandise.

“There is also an opportunity to learn more about the different gymnastics sports and activities available through gymnastics. Parents considering getting their kids involved are able to use the sites comprehensive search functionality to find their local club.”

Gymnastics Western Australia was backed by the Western Australian Department of Sport and Recreation and Healthway in developing The Gym Squad.
