IAAF and track specialist Mondo announce extended partnership
September 30, 2019

With the World Athletics Championships underway in the Qatari capital of Doha, world athletics governing body the IAAF and Italian manufacturer MONDO S.p.A. have announced that their partnership, which began in 1987, will continue until 2024.

Renewing its contract as official IAAF World Athletics Series supplier in the ‘Athletics equipment and athletics tracks’ category for another five years, the agreement underlines the central position the Italian company has in the world of athletics.

MONDO will provide sports surfaces for all World Athletics Series (WAS) events, including supplying the tracks and athletics equipment for the World Athletics Championships in Oregon in 2021 and Budapest in 2023, as well as for the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing next year.

Commenting on the extended partnership, MONDO Sport and Flooring Director, Maurizio Stroppiana stated “our goal is simple: we want to help athletes to improve and achieve their personal best.

“We are dedicated to ensuring that every athlete can improve their results and their performance, even if only by a 10th of a second. This is why we listen to athletes and coaches and are constantly working on optimising our products - to help sportsmen and women everywhere achieve success.”

IAAF President Lord Sebastian Coe added “we have always been impressed by MONDO’s company-wide commitment to helping athletes achieve their personal best and maximise their performance. The IAAF is grateful for MONDO's long-term commitment to athletics and enthusiastically welcomes its decision to continue our partnership for many years to come.”

MONDO created a unique pink track at Khalifa International Stadium for the championships in Doha, supplying 17,000 metre² of its premium MONDOTRACK WS, and is currently installing the athletics tracks for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The company is also under consideration to supply athletics tracks and equipment to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Mondotrack WS contains specially-designed three-dimensional rubber particles with a selected polymer system to improve the responsiveness and uniformity of the track while maintaining the dynamic performance of the surface and its capacity to reduce fatigue in the athletes who use it.

MONDO’s athletics equipment has also received a comprehensive overhaul to improve functionality, comfort and design. Working with the IAAF design and creative technology team, MONDO's goal was to provide solutions that enable athletes to focus exclusively on their races, particularly during the most intense moments of the competition.
