Inaugural Summit to develop Australian and Chinese sporting links

A new event, the Australia-China Sports Summit, is set to bring together industry professionals and experts from China and Australia to consider the future of sport in both countries and present opportunities to collaborate and develop business links.

With China now Australia’s most important trading partner and the fast growing nation rapidly expanding its sport industry, there are many opportunities for Australian sporting organisations, businesses and educators to share their expertise and products.

With a rising middle class and its push to a consumption lead economy, the focus on sport is being led by the Chinese Government, with sport earmarked as the nation's next big industry for the decades ahead.

Being held in Shanghai on 16th and 17th October, the inaugural Summit presents at opportunity to establish new business connections and hear from senior-level executives about the future of the sports industry in China and opportunities for Australia businesses.

Summit attendees will include a cross section of Chinese and Australian: sporting associations; government organisations and institutions; universities and sports academies; and sports technology and manufacturing companies.

​Confirmed high level delegations from Australian sports including tennis, AFL, basketball, rugby union, football and cricket will all be attending the Summit. Attending sporting codes will be matched by their Chinese peers in peak bodies and organising bureaus.

The Inaugural Australia-China Sports Summit will feature keynote addresses, panels and interviews covering a range of sports topics.

Leadership from the Australian Sports Technology Network and some of Australia’s premier sports technology businesses will also be in attendance. This will be supplemented by expertise from some of Australia’s leading universities and sporting academies, including the University of Technology Sydney who will present on the Australian Rugby Union’s new high performance precinct in Sydney’s Moore Park.

The Inaugural Australia-China Sports Summit will feature keynote addresses, panels and interviews covering a range of sports topics.

As part of the Summit package, participants will be given access to China’s most comprehensive sport and entertainment insights program. These insights will be available in the lead up and for the duration of the Summit and are provided by leading consultancy Gemba.

The content will be accessed through an exclusive online portal and customised to the major presentations of the Summit.

The Summit is backed by the Australian Chamber of Commerce Shanghai (AustCham Shanghai) is the peak body for Australian business in China.

Founded in 1994, AustCham Shanghai is now the largest Australian Chamber of Commerce in the Greater China region, representing more than 400 businesses and individuals across a wide variety of industry sectors.
