Brisbane-based leisure architects Liquid Blu A+R have partnered with MakMax Australia to deliver the feature roof over the main 50 metre swimming pool at Rockhampton's Southside Memorial Pool.

The 4,000 metre2 tensile membrane structure is the key feature of the second stage of the $17 million redevelopment of the landmark aquatic facility. Jointly funded by the Federal and Queensland Governments along with Rockhampton Regional Council, the project will be delivered in partnership with JM Kelly (Project Builders) utilising Serge Ferrari PVC supplied by local distributor Innova.

Fabrication of the membrane is scheduled to take place in Brisbane before the end of the year with the steelwork scheduled to be installed as of January 2013 and the work set for completion in March 2013.

MakMax are internationally renowned leaders in tensile membrane technology with the roof at Southside Memorial Pool set to provide both shade and rain protection over the pool and its 650 seat grandstand.

This second stage in the redevelopment of the Southside Memorial Pool will further underline the facility as the premier aquatic venue in Central Queensland and as the only facility of its kind in the region equipped to handle State and National swimming events.
