Melbourne to host Sports Analytics Innovation Summit over next two days
March 7, 2017

Innovation Enterprise will be playing host to the Sports Analytics Innovation Summit in Melbourneover the next two days - 8th and 9th March.

Over the course of the two-day event, attendees will receive insight from some of the sports world’s leading lights in data analytics with presentations to be given by representatives from the Brisbane Broncos, Twitter, Tennis Australia, Port Adelaide FC, Cricket Australia, North Melbourne FC, Bupa, and Collingwood FC, among many others.

Explaining the significnance of the event, Daniel Watts, Global Events Manager – Australia at Innovation Enterprise, states “since sports analytics’ ‘big bang’ moment it has ballooned into a necessity rather than an optional extra.

“Every major sporting team and institution will now have or be in the process of implementing an advanced data analytics program as they strive to make the marginal gains often decisive in the industry.

“The implementation of these programs has not been without complication, though, as some analytics teams struggle to make sense of the overload of data now being collected.

“But it’s important that teams find a way; the benefits can be game-changing. Aside from the more obvious uses for data analytics - athlete acquisition, opposition analysis - teams are finding new ways to make their data count.

“Wearable technology, for example, is being used to mitigate injury risk both on the training field and in-game.

“Sensory equipment and apps are being used to engage fans in a whole new way and are shaping the modern stadium.

“There’s not an area of sport in which data analytics isn’t having an effect.”

The Australian edition of this global event, will focus on these less immediately obvious advantages, as well as the more traditional applications.

Player tracking, wearable tech, fan engagement, and the digital fan experience will all be topics, with a particular look at analytics in the AFL as it exists today.

Industry leading teams and institutions will come together to discuss how the industry can best respond to the challenges and opportunities presented by new technologies sharing insight into their work at some of the top teams and organizations in Australian sport.

On top of the insight from digital marketing’s leading voices, the Summit will provide opportunities for attendees to meet, discuss the industry and share ideas with other executive-level decision makers.

Through panel discussions and organised networking sessions, the summit will ensure that every attendee has the opportunity to be heard and potentially find the next great solution for their team or company.
