New High Performance Centre for NZ Rowing
April 21, 2009
Rowing New Zealand's new state of the art High Performance Centre at Lake Karapiro has been opened by Governor General the Hon Sir Anand Satyanand.
A special ceremony attended by some of rowing's most senior figures including Don Rowlands, Wybo Weldman and Mike Stanley, as well as many others who have served the sport in New Zealand, stood and listened as the Governor General, an enthusiastic follower of the sport talked about the history of the sport and what Rowing New Zealand hopes to achieve with its new HP Centre.
The new NZ $4.2 million centre features a gym, sports science centre, rooms for massage therapy and administration, and boat sheds.
Governor-General and Rowing NZ patron Sir Anand Satyanand, who unveiled a plaque to honour the occasion, congratulated Rowing NZ on the creation of the facility.
Rowing New Zealand Chairman Bill Falconer said the firm focus of the new centre was rowing, stating "this centre is not a clubhouse. There is no bar or social facilities here."
