Nike launches ‘reimagined running track’ in the centre of Manila

As part of a promotion, Nike has operated a massive pop-up running track, where sprinters were able to race against their own avatar, in the centre of the Philippine capital of Manila.
Occupying an entire city block during Ausgust, the 200 metre track was lined with LED screens that challenge up to 30 runners at a time to improve their times against their previous best. After setting their pace in the first lap, a sensor was then attached to their shoes, so their competing full-size avatar (‘ghost runner’) ran with them on the screen, racing ahead or falling behind depending on the runner’s pace.
The digital avatars grew in size the further and faster they ran, encouraging runners to push beyond their limits through a series of challenges centered around time and distance.
Promoting Nike's LunarEpic shoe, the Unlimited Stadium track was designed in the shaped of a giant running show by design studio Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) Singapore in partnership with Party New York and Jack Morton Worldwide.
Introducing the Unlimited Stadium, the designers advised “we conceptualised the stadium from strategy and creative concept to the stadium architecture and overall user experience bringing it all together with our expert partners.
“The Unlimited Stadium was a fusing of the virtual and physical worlds.”
