Northern Territory Sports Minister resigns over sex video scandal

Northern Territory Sports Minister and Assistant Treasurer Nathan Barrett has resigned from the Territory's Cabinet after reportedly distributing videos and photographs of himself engaged in a sex act via Facebook.
The married father of three last night said that he would not recontest his seat at the August NT election after earlier resigning from cabinet, admitting that among messages including a naked photo of himself was criticism of his Country Liberal Party colleagues.
Barrett has apologised for his actions, which he said involved a woman he was with for a short period.
He told media "I endeavour to represent my community effectively and improve the lives of the people of Blain and the entire Northern Territory."
The practicing Christian whose past political campaigning has relied on extensive references to his family admitted to being engaged in an "inappropriate relationship".
He stated "while this is essentially a private matter that my wife and I have been working through for some time, I unreservedly apologise to my family, the people of my electorate of Blain, my parliamentary colleagues, the party, and the men and women in the Department of Sport and Recreation and Youth Affairs,"
The resignation came after the NT News reported Barrett had sent videos of himself engaged in a sex act to a constituent.
He apologised to the woman that he sent the videos to.
Northern Territory Chief Minister Adam Giles will take over Barrett's ministerial responsibilities until the NT's 27th August election.
Chief Minister Giles added that "Barrett should reconsider future in politics", highlighting that his Government had recently passed legislation to protect people from so-called sexting.
