Cook Islands has become the first country to register its athletes and officials for the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Registrations via Sporting Pulse, the live database that the 2015 Pacific Games will be using to have participating countries register their teams allows participating countries to register their athletes and officials by name and sporting category via the ‘Entry by Name’ database. The Games Organising Committee (GOC) has been operating purely on indicative numerical entries to help make necessary preparations. However, as of last week, countries are now able to start registering personal details of their athletes and the sports categories they will be competing in, using this database.

GOC Athlete Services Manager Adelbert Gangai explains “our task becomes a lot easier as we are better able to understand the various needs of the competing athletes and we are able to advance our planning to meet those specific needs.”

The data collated via this database will help the team to start the process of accreditation, travel and immigration, sport results, and other important planning requirements.

GOC Operations Executive Manager Clint Flood added “this is a major milestone in our preparation for the games, reflective of a lot of hard work and commitment from the staff of the Athlete Services and Technology departments in working behind the scenes to make this possible.”

With Cook Islands being the first to start the registration process, it makes the Port Moresby 2015 Pacific Games Organising Committee the first in the history of the games to start the process of ‘Entry by Name’ on time.

Flood added “we hope to see all other countries follow suit and we look forward to seeing them register their teams in the coming weeks to enable us to host the best ever.”
