Panasonic delivers screen display and audio systems to Japan’s new National Stadium

The Panasonic Corporation has provided details of the wide range of equipment, essential to venue operations, that it has installed at Japan’s new National Stadium, the centrepiece venue for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The international technology giant delivered equipment including large screen displays and audio systems that amplify the excitement, stadium lights that illuminate the field of play and also help enhance the fan environment, as well as approximately 600 digital signage systems.
The most noticeable installation are two large screen HD displays on both the north and south sides of the stands, measuring 9 x 36 metres and 9 x 32 metres respectively.
The company’s work also include a total of 38 line array speakers to deliver clear sound ensuring sound pressure even on the field, far away from the speakers. The ideal linear sound source was brought to life by selecting the unit optimal for the acoustic characteristics demanded of stadiums, theatres, and event halls, and employing the waveguide horn design
Panasonic’s LED ‘Stadium Beam’ floodlights not only illuminates the field of play, but can be turned on/off instantly, enabling the use of lighting for spectator entertainment. The system utilises cutting-edge technology to realize the optimal colour reproducibility and high-speed image reproduction for 4K/8K broadcasts. Panasonic has developed floodlights that offer the optimal colour reproducibility for 4K/8K broadcasts – an average colour rendering index of Ra 90 plus a special colour rendering index of R9 80 for red tones. In addition, by adopting ignition technology, the floodlights minimise flickering during high-speed reproduction of slow-motion footage.
For the stands, Panasonic delivered 600 digital signage systems (the largest number of such systems ever delivered) that can be remotely controlled to provide information to spectators. Different information can be delivered in each concourse area, so information can be efficiently relayed to spectators.
Furthermore, Panasonic also provided eco-friendly air conditioning systems such as large-scale air conditioning systems that utilise natural refrigerants (Natural Chiller), gas heat pump air conditioners (GHP) to various operating rooms.
In a statement, the company advised “Panasonic’s stadium solutions are transforming the way fans watch sports by utilising a diverse range of solutions including audio-visual and lighting solutions, surprising and delighting spectators and delivering peace of mind in public spaces.”
The new National Stadium was built on the site of the old National Stadium, which served as the Olympic Stadium during the Tokyo 1964 Games.
During 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the new National Stadium will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and track and field competitions.
