Queensland’s ActiveKIT program supports innovative ideas to encourage physical activity

Queensland’s ActiveKIT program in collaboration with Health and Wellbeing Queensland supports new and creative ideas to keep Queenslanders active and healthy and has to date funded 39 innovative ideas including a multi-gym access pass for sport climbers and a digital registration system to streamline club sign-on days.
A total of 108 ActiveKIT applications were received for co-funded, innovative projects up to $200,000.
Queensland Innovation and Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe notes “we know how critical movement and physical flexibility are for the health of Queenslanders of all ages and abilities. That’s why we invited the active sport industry to come up with new ideas to help make exercise easier and more convenient.”
Health and Wellbeing Queensland Chief Executive Dr Robyn Littlewood said the ActiveKIT fund was an important way to create new opportunities for Queenslanders to move more and make physical activity a part of their daily lives.
Dr Littlewood adds “we know 420,000 Queenslanders are not getting enough physical activity each week.
“We need innovative solutions to make it easier for people to put their health first – preventative health is key and physical activity is critical to this agenda.
“It helps us maintain a healthy weight and reduces the risk of conditions like heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer.”
Projects funded by ActiveKIT include:
- An app to encourage office workers to make movement part of their daily routine.
- Physical activity programs for cancer survivors, arthritis sufferers and Queenslanders with a disability
- A multi-gym access pass for sport climbers
- Digital registration system to streamline club sign-on days
- Administration software for sporting clubs
- Local Government-developed, location-specific exercise opportunities for seniors, women and girls
- Online coaching platforms for community clubs by state level sporting organisations
