Rockhampton’s Southside Memorial Pool opens
Work has been completed on the large tensile membrane roof over the flagship 50 metre pool at Rockhampton's Southside Memorial Pool.
The $17 million Federal, State and Regional Council funded project features a 4,000 metre2 tensile membrane roof over the main pool, a product of a partnership between fabric structure manufacturers MakMax, Brisbane's Liquid Blu Architects and Rockhampton builder JM Kelly (Project Builders) Pty Ltd.
The design of the tensile membrane roof is the result of collaboration between MakMax engineers and Liquid Blu architects with its unique shape providing an efficient cover while also visually enhancing the space.
MakMax Project Manager Andrejus Cernysevas says the installation has been quite simple given the challenges presented, stating "working around an Olympic sized swimming pool was a little different, especially considering it was full of water!"
The tensile membrane structure is the key feature of the second stage of the redevelopment of the landmark aquatic facility, underling the Southside Memorial Pool as the only facility of its kind in the region equipped to handle State and National swimming events.
