SCG to install massive new video screen

July 7, 2012
The Sydney Cricket Ground is to install a new 272 metre2 LED video screen the largest in any Australian stadium - as part of the construction of the new Northern Stand replacing the MA Noble, Bradman and Messenger Stands.
The SCG Trust has awarded the contract to Daktronics Australia and the new video screen will be in use for Sydney Swans games at the SCG in 2013.
The new video screen will be 115 metres2 larger than the previous screen (157 metres2) which was located on the old Messenger Stand.
The video screen will incorporate excellent clarity and contrast of images and includes an advanced pixel layout for outstanding wide-angle viewing, a high-contrast design and world-class image processing.
SCG Trust Chief Executive, Jamie Barkley, said spectators will be blown away by the video board's size and picture quality, stating "modern day spectators the world over demand a large, high-resolution video screen to enhance their match day experience. The new video screen will provide a superior picture and more vibrant viewing experience for fans when attending events at the SCG.
"The bigger and improved screen will provide even more enjoyment for fans with replays of all the on-field moments plus full match scoring."
Daktronics is recognised as the world's leading provider of full-colour LED video displays.
Daktronics Australia General Manager Blair Robertson added "this partnership will see the SCG embark on the very latest LED display technology available including future integration advancements to allow for further expansion. We are very excited about this opportunity and look forward to becoming a part of this historic venue and its future transformation."
The SCG's current video screen is being dismantled to make way for the construction of the new Northern Stand and the new video screen.
A temporary video screen will be in place for the Sydney Swans' remaining home games this season.
