Singapore Sports Hub appoints strategic partner: considers naming rights sale

Singapore Sports Hub appoints strategic partner: considers naming rights sale
February 15, 2013

The Singapore Sports Hub has announced that German IT firm T-Systems will build, manage and operate its information and communication technology (ICT) services.

The 21-year contract is worth S$94 million.

T-Systems, which has its South Asia headquarters in Singapore, is the corporate consumer arm of Deutsche Telekom.

The company has been the ICT partner for several sports venues around the world, including the Stadium Wroclaw in Poland, which hosted Euro 2012 football games and the Rhein-Necker Arena in Germany.

In other developments relating to the new Singapore Sports Hub, it has emerged that the commercial operator may sell the naming rights to individual facilities within the Sports Hub, except for the National Stadium.

However, any sale of naming rights within the Sports Hub will be still subject to the Singapore Sports Council's consent.

The aim is to strike a balance between preserving the character of Singapore's national icons and allowing sports to benefit from corporate sponsorship.

The Sports Hub is being developed under a 25-year public-private-partnership (PPP) agreement where a commercial operator undertakes to finance, build and operate the entire project in return for a pre-agreed payment and a share of the overall revenue.

Part of the revenue from the operation of the Sports Hub, which would include revenue from the sale of naming rights, may be used to pay for future improvements in facilities, events and shows, as well as to fund community events and support the development of athletes.
