Sports and Play Industry Association recognises best industry projects at 2024 Awards
The Sports and Play Industry Association (SAPIA) has presented its 2024 industry awards, whittled down from a record total of 133 entries for projects across the country, as well as a first entry for a sports court built for a mining town in the humid highlands of New Guinea.
Holding its awards since the Association’s inception in March 2000 (when it was known as the Tennis Court and Sports Field Builders Association of Australasia), as the industry peak body the program recognises adherence to Australian Standards and construction best practices.
Judges address criteria including quality of layout and design, with emphasis on both the structural and aesthetic, appropriateness of dimensions, evaluation of site work as to problems and solutions with special attention to drainage, landscaping and walkways, evaluation of base construction with regard to materials, thickness and tolerances, use of appropriate surface materials and irrigation system, adequacy and aesthetics of finished product, playing lines, floodlighting levels and uniformity as well as control of spillage, fencing structural design, style and layout, and finally whether the project gives an overall impression of excellence.
