Sports Community backs grassroots sports clubs
October 22, 2013

Since launching in January this year, Sports Community has been worked extensively with state and territory government and councils around Australia to assist in their sports club development programs.

Dedicated to helping volunteers grassroots sports clubs, the following Sports Community resources can be accessed via their website.

Sports Community website

The flagship Sports Community website contains extensive information required by clubs and their volunteers including over 80 fundraising procedures, all open grants, and hundreds of free procedures, articles and templates containing information to club volunteers on everything from running an AGM to developing strategic plans.

The site has been designed in such a way that a club President can delegate a task to a volunteer who has little or no knowledge of that task and after using the site can confidently and successfully complete their assigned task for the club.

Sports Community not only provides services directly to volunteers but also to the many stakeholders in the community sport sector including all levels of government, state and national sporting organisations.

Volunteer training

Complementing the Sports Community website, is a comprehensive range of training sessions for club volunteers covering topics such as strategic planning, compliance and risk management, financial management, building a quality club culture, participation strategies, marketing and social media and of course maximising clubs fundraising opportunities. Typically local Councils or State Sports Associations sponsor the sessions and then invite the clubs and their volunteers to attend the sessions, free of charge.

Sports Community is a national service provider and has run training sessions in Victoria, NSW, ACT and at the end of October in Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs as part of an eight day training road show sponsored by Northern Territory Sport and Recreation.

Club Support Help Desk

The Clubs Support Help Desk is a subscription service where local councils, state and national sports bodies outsource club enquiries and support to Sports Community.

This frees up valuable resources at the local council or sports association at the same time providing the clubs direct access to industry experts who can immediately assist with their issue or refer them to the most suitable people and resources.

Content development

Sports Community releases an extensive amount of free information each month relevant to local sports clubs and their volunteers. This information has been designed to be used by local councils, state and national sports bodies in their various publications and email newsletters they produce for their local sports clubs and volunteers.

Sports Community seeks to empower all volunteers to confidently and successfully undertake their role within their club.

Local sports clubs are so important to Australia's local communities and only by empowering volunteers does this ensure clubs and their vital role within the community are sustainable over the long term.
