Surfing Victoria engages with its community online

Surfing Victoria has shifted its operations to an online model to deal with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the organisation.
While surfing events are unable to run for the foreseeable future and staff are working from home, Surfing Victoria has been able to engage with the Victorian surf community through a range of initiatives.
Surfing Victoria Chief Executive Adam Robertson advises “it’s fantastic to see how agile our staff and business has been over the last few months.
“We have been able to offer many of our services through online portals and our staff have been working hard to get more programs up online over the coming weeks.”
Surfing Victoria have expanded their newly launched online coaching platform – Surf Better Now – to include video analysis as well as new video explanations and manoeuvres.
The website has levels for all surfers from beginners in the white water to aspiring professionals looking to take their surfing to the next level.
Backed by Surfing Victoria’s world renowned coaching team who have worked with the likes of World Champions Kelly Slater, Carissa Moore and Isabella Nichols, the site is easy to access and broken down into levels of skill.
Meanwhile, the highly successful Women and Girls SUP Program – Coasting SUP – has been engaging with its past and future participants with a 4-week fitness and technique program lead by instructors Rikki Bell-Warren and Sharon Bourke entirely based online.
The program gives women and girls easy to follow exercises to help keep them fit while social distancing at home as well as maintain their technique skills for when restrictions are lifted.
The award winning Surfers Rescue 24/7 program has also made the shift online with an online training portal to be launched in the coming weeks.
Combining CPR skills and board rescue techniques, the program will help save lives by teaching surfers these vital skills that can be used all year round.
The training portal will be open to all and includes a Virtual Reality element that can be accessed via phone.
