Third Asian Flow Tour attracts top flowboarders from the Asia Pacific
The third Annual FLOW (Flowboarding League of the World) Tour Asia 2013 championship has wrapped up having injected some serious stoke in the region over the last two months.
Concluding at Asia's leading FlowRider venue, Wave House Sentosa, the event included regional qualifying events and local competitions in Thailand, at the Flow House Bangkok and Surf House Phuket; Saipan, at the Pacific Islands Club as well as at Wave House Sentosa, prior to the FLOW Tour Asia finals which were held at Wave House Sentosa at the beginning of October.
The FLOW Tour is flowboarding's premier competitive tour featuring some of the world's best riders. However, it also focuses on the grass roots of flowboarding, providing a platform for riders to enter competitions at any level and learn the fundamentals en route to the top.
In addition to the FLOW Tour Asia, competitions are held in South Africa, Europe, and the USA, and, as new FlowRider attractions continue be built around the globe, additional tours are being formed to accommodate the hunger for competition and the sport.
The FLOW Tour format has been adapted and refined since its launch five years ago.
During competition, each rider is given three runs and their top two scores count for their total score. The judges base the rider's score on trick and run execution, overall impression, and difficulty. The top two riders in a four-competitor heat format progress through to the next round until the four-man final.
Top competitors strive to advance to the top ranks throughout the year and earn their seed into the International FLOWrider Championships at the end of the year.
The FLOW Tour Asia attracts top flowboarders in the Asia Pacific region (from Saipan, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Thailand and Malaysia) and are signature events at each of the participating facilities.
Providing the energy behing the FLOW Tour Asia, Surf House Phuket General Manager Joe Ang explains that the 2013 event was a huge success, stating that "the tour this year revealed many talented riders who stepped up to the Pro-Divisions."
