Aventuur and Ocean Heroes announce partnership for Perth’s first Surf Park
Aventuur, a leading global creator of surf and wellbeing destinations and Ocean Heroes, a leading charitable and surf therapy organisation, have announced an exciting partnership for the Perth Surf Park.
The collaboration between the surf park developer and the charity is set to deliver a range of benefits to the Western Australian community and enhance the wellbeing of people on the autism spectrum and their families.
Strategically located in Cockburn Central, the $120million development will create a sustainable surf park welcoming up to one million visitors per year. Opening in early 2027, the venue will offer perfect waves for all abilities, high-performance training facilities, and major sporting and cultural events – along with quality leisure, hospitality and retail amenities.
Under the partnership, Aventuur will support the delivery of autistic, neurodivergent and adaptive surfing programs in Western Australia, including experiences and events at the Perth Surf Park. By providing infrastructure and access to the park’s Wavegarden ‘Cove’ surfing lagoon, participants can enjoy Ocean Heroes events in a safe, controlled and accessible environment.
The agreement will also see the charity’s National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and school surfing programs delivered at the Perth Surf Park, and will enable park guests to volunteer and donate to support Ocean Heroes’ initiatives.
Ocean Heroes Co-Founder Luke Hallam (above left) enthused “at Ocean Heroes, we strive to make surfing accessible for the autistic and neurodiverse community. Our partnership with Aventuur and the Perth Surf Park is a game changer, expanding opportunities for the participants we serve.
“In Western Australia, our beach programs are often limited by wind, swell, and weather conditions. By hosting our programs at the Perth Surf Park, we can provide the local autistic community with safe, inclusive, and supportive outdoor activities that promote physical activity and community engagement through surfing, no matter what the weather is doing.”
Ocean Heroes will support Aventuur through the development and operation of the Perth Surf Park, including assisting with the design of the park’s accessible amenities, and developing autistic, neurodivergent, and adaptive surfing experiences in collaboration with Aventuur’s high- performance partner, Micro Surf Academy, and Surfing WA.
The two organisations will also team up to establish an accessible division of Perth’s first inland boardriders club at the Perth Surf Park, and work with State and National organisations to provide surf awareness instruction to school-aged children.
Aventuur Chairman and Chief Development Officer, Andrew Ross (above right), emphasised the significance of the relationship noting "our partnership with Ocean Heroes embodies our commitment to making surfing more accessible, and to enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of all West Australians.
“We are proud to support Luke, Sam, and the team’s meaningful efforts to enable people on the autism spectrum to experience the joys of surfing, while improving the quality of life of participants and their families. We look forward to working with the Ocean Heroes community to deliver life- changing programs, experiences, and events at the Perth Surf Park.”
The Perth Surf Park is expected to create over 300 jobs during construction, and contribute more than $250million to the WA economy during its operating life.
With all development and environmental approvals received, the Perth Surf Park is now shovel-ready with final project financing activities underway. Construction is expected to commence in early 2025, ahead of the park’s expected opening in early 2027.
Aventuur, a leading global creator of surf and wellbeing destinations has the exclusive rights to Wavegarden’s wave-generating technology in key markets across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Fiji and North America.
Ocean Heroes, a leading charitable and surf therapy organisation aims to improve the wellbeing of people on the autism spectrum and their families through surfing, with programs delivered in Western Australia, New South Wales and Queensland.
