iDwala transforms Point Lonsdale Tennis Courts for local sporting community
The community focused Point Lonsdale Tennis Club on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula has had two of its tennis courts resurfaced, with the upgrade also including new lighting and ‘Book a Court’ technology.
The Borough of Queenscliffe engaged iDwala as the principle contractor to transform the old and tired tennis facilities into new premium synthetic turf courts for two of the six tennis courts onsite.
Nestled in the picturesque Ganes Reserve the newly installed tennis courts were surfaced using Australian made SuperGrasse Court Turf PE, which is now Category 3 ITF classified and certified, produced by leading Victorian manufacturer APT Asia Pacific and was successfully installed by TruTurf.
To assist the Council in working within their budget, the new courts were installed over the top of the existing Plexipave surfaces after rigorous investigations were undertaken to ensure the stability of the pavement and some minor maintenance works.
A superior lighting upgrade, to club level competition, was also a major component of the renovations which included the installation of a brand-new tennis court lighting system designed and installed by SES Lighting and Electrical, in order to meet the needs of the club along with Tennis Victoria.
In addition, a new Tennis Victoria online ‘Book a Court’ system was also installed at the Club.
As facilities close to coastal environments experience harsh and corrosive conditions, iDwala was involved in the selection of concrete light poles to be installed in lieu of the traditional galvanised light duty poles to prevent early onset corrosion and rust.
This innovative approach provides an excellent (and more cost effective) solution ensuring the integrity and longevity of the electrical facilities, while simultaneously helping reduce maintenance costs for both facility and Council.
The lighting system was designed to Tennis Victoria lighting requirements and Australian Standards AS2560.2.1. Due to the proximity of residential properties, an Obtrusive Lighting Design was undertaken to AS4282:2019 to ensure spill lighting and glare from the lights fall within the standards.
Beautifully designed, the courts are blue with a green surround, the blue courts assisting in ball visibility. In time, the club and Council have plans to add new lights to these remaining two courts and resurface with artificial grass to complement the new ones.
The Borough of Queenscliffe, Point Lonsdale Tennis club and its community members are delighted with the new courts which, linked with the ‘Book a Court’ technology, have made it easier than ever to secure and coordinate tennis activities at the family focused facility.
